Auditory Bombardment Story for Kids: The /CH/ Sound with Charlie & Chelsea
When our family was introduced to the idea of auditory bombardment to support my son’s speech development, I began making up stories that focused on the /ch/ sound, often telling them during our drives to school. Auditory bombardment, in case you’re new to it, is a technique used to strengthen a child’s awareness of specific sounds by repeatedly exposing them to those sounds in a fun, engaging way. It’s especially helpful for children who need extra support with certain sounds in their speech.
Since I’ve seen how much my son enjoys these stories—and the positive impact they have on his pronunciation—I thought sharing them could be useful for other parents working on the /ch/ sound with their kids, too. This story about Charlie and Chelsea’s chocolate chip cookie challenge is packed with /ch/ words to make practicing this sound as enjoyable and natural as possible. Whether you’re working on speech sounds or just looking for a fun, simple story, I hope you and your child enjoy it!
Charlie & Chelsea’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Challenge!
One chilly afternoon, Charlie and Chelsea decided to have a chocolate chip cookie challenge in their cozy kitchen.
After double-checking their cookbooks, Charlie and Chelsea each chose the recipes they thought would win the chocolate chip cookie challenge.
“Check out my chocolate chip cookie recipe, Charlie!” said Chelsea. It has a list of mix-ins to choose, like cherries, butterscotch, or even chili flakes!
Charlie chuckled. “My chocolate chip cookie recipe has cherries and chopped nuts too!”
The two got to work chopping chocolate bars into chunks and mixing them with rich butter, crunchy sugar, a pinch of vanilla, and the mix-ins they had chosen. Chelsea sneaked a taste, and Charlie caught her.
“Cheeky, Chelsea!” Charlie chided playfully. “No more until the cookies are ready!”
They shaped each cookie and placed them on the checkered baking sheet, then slid the batch into the hot oven. The kitchen filled with a rich, chocolatey smell that made their cheeks warm.
When the chocolate chip cookies were ready, Charlie and Chelsea cheered and chomped down on the chocolatey, slightly crunchy, soft and chewy treats.
Chelsea and Charlie decided that these were the best chocolate chip cookies ever! Both recipes deserved the championship, so they stood on their chairs to cheer for a chocolatey challenge well done!
I hope you and your child enjoyed Charlie and Chelsea’s chocolate chip cookie challenge! If your little one has ideas for what these two friends should do next, I’d love to hear them.
