Howdy Homemade Ice Cream
If you like good ice cream, we stumbled upon a fantastic brand that you have to try out. I was pregnant and asked my husband for ice cream when he was at the grocery store. To my very pleasant surprise, he returned with Howdy Homemade which is now my ice cream of choice!
Why?
Howdy Homemade is a mission driven company providing structure, confidence, and a sense of pride for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by creating a space where teens and adults can find meaningful employment
It all started in Dallas, TX in 2015.
After hiring a young man with Down Syndrome at one of his franchise restaurants, founder Tom Landis realized that people with disabilities are often overlooked as valuable contributors to the workforce. This experience, coupled with his franchise restaurant experience and fortuitously reading Another Season, led Tom to ‘create a space where teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities could find meaningful employment.’
He didn’t want to overlook potential employees with disabilities and instead decided to create a company where they could become the center of the business. “While the ice cream gets rave reviews, Howdy Homemade is a successful business because of our employees..”
Howdy Homemade Ice Cream is proving that a money-making enterprise can put a social mission first.
