About Bolster
A better way to shop. Built with real life in mind.
Inclusive shopping shouldn’t be hard to find.
And it shouldn’t feel like an afterthought.
Bolster exists to make everyday shopping easier, more accessible, and more thoughtful for people with disabilities and the caregivers who support them. We’re building a place where adaptive products are easier to discover, easier to understand, and easier to trust.
This work is long overdue. And it’s personal.
Why Bolster Exists
When you support someone with a disability—or live with one yourself—time and energy are already stretched thin. Yet finding shoes that work with orthotics, clothing that’s easier to dress in, or tools that support daily routines often means hours of searching, guessing, and settling.
Bolster was created to change that.
We’re starting with content and community because that’s where clarity and trust begin. From there, we’re building toward something bigger: a one-stop destination for adaptive and functional products, designed around real needs—not assumptions.
The Story Behind Bolster
On March 6, 2020, our founder received a call that changed everything for her.
After months of uncertainity, her son was diagnosed with Potocki-Lupski Syndrome, a rare genetic condition. The diagnosis brought clarity, but also a flood of new questions about therapists, equipment, clothing, shoes, and what support would actually look like day to day.
Her son attends multiple therapies each week and uses orthotics. Finding products that truly supported his development meant constant searching, trial and error, and piecing together recommendations that were often incomplete.
The problem wasn't a lack of products.
It was a lack of organization, visibility, and intention.
That's where Bolster began.
What We're Building
Bolster is being built with one clear goal:
Make adaptive shopping simpler, clearer, and more human.
That means:
- Curating adaptive and functional products that serve real needs
- Explaining why products work, not just listing features
- Centering lived experience over markeing language
- Creating a space where caregivers and disabled shoppers feel seen
We often describe the vision as a Target-like experience for adaptive shopping. One place. Clear categories. Trusted recommendations. No digging required.
But unlike big box stores, Bolster is built from the inside out, with the community at the center.
This isn't shopping built on trends.
It's built on real life.
Who Bolster is For
Bolster is for:
- Caregivers who are tired of guessing
- Disabled shoppers who want better options and clearer information
- Families who need products that support daily life, not complicate it
- Anyone who believes accessibility should be standard, not optional
You don't need to be an expert to be here.
You just need a place that understands what you're looking for.
Where We're Headed
Today, Bolster is a resource hub and curated shopping guide.
Tomorrow, it becomes something more.
We're building toward a fully integrated shopping experience that brings together adaptive apparel, footwear, sensory tools, and everyday essentials—all in one place.
This is the foundation.
And we're glad you're here.
Meet the Founder
Bolster was founded by Rachel, a parent and caregiver who experienced the gaps in adaptive shopping firsthand—and had the experience to do something about it. As a two-time entrepreneur, she brings both lived perspective and systems thinking to building a clearer, more inclusive way to shop, centered on real needs, not assumptions.
