BILLY Footwear Adaptive Shoe Guide
BILLY Footwear Adaptive Shoes
Our favorite easy-on shoes for independence, orthotics, and every day wear.
About BILLY Footwear
BILLY Footwear was founded by two Seattle locals, Darin Donaldson and Billy Price, after Billy broke his neck in a three-story fall in 1996. The accident left him paralyzed from the chest down — and while he eventually found ways to adapt most of his daily routine, one thing always eluded him: shoes. He could never find a pair that was both attractive and something he could put on independently.
That frustration became a mission. Together, Billy and Darin created a shoe with a wraparound zipper that opens the entire upper, letting the foot slide in unobstructed. No forcing, no struggling. Just zip and go.
What started as a personal solution grew into something bigger — a footwear brand built on universal design. BILLY shoes work for everyone, and they look like it too.
Why We Love BILLY Shoes
- Full-wrap zipper opens wide for easier on and off
- Works well with orthotics, braces, and limited hand strength
- Looks like mainstream sneakers—not adaptive at first glance
- Available in kids and adult sizing
- A strong balance of function, comfort, and everyday design
BILLY is often one of the first adaptive shoe brands caregivers discover—and one many continue to rely on year after year.
The BILLY Zipper System
BILLY's patented wraparound zipper runs along the side and around the toe of every shoe, allowing the entire upper to fold back completely. That means feet — and whatever's on them — slide straight onto the footbed with zero forcing or repositioning. One tug closes and secures the shoe.
It works for orthotics, braces, and limited hand strength alike. And because the zipper is integrated into the design rather than added on, the shoes look like regular sneakers.
